The Titleist brand was born from a vision—and an X-ray. It all began on a Sunday in 1932, when Phil Young, an avid amateur golfer and owner of a rubber molding company, missed a well-placed putt during a game with his dentist. Convinced that the ball itself was the cause of the missed putt, Young and his opponent went to the dentist's office, X-rayed the ball in question, and discovered that its core was in fact off-center.
